The Customer (the Agency) is a U.S. State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. This agency is responsible for the reporting of National Outcome Measures (NOMs) for alcohol and substance abuse in the State. The Agency used a web application to collect data from approximately 360 treatment agencies around the State. To provide a more robust environment for future changes and to prepare the Agency for integration with State Medicaid systems, the Agency engaged AgreeYa to migrate the existing web application from a Microsoft ASP to ASP .NET platform. The challenges for this upgrade included:

• Deliver a migrated application with the same look and feel and functionality as the existing application to make the transition seamless for the end users of the application
• Short development timeframe due to immediate business requirements of the migrated system
• Limited documentation available describing the design and functionality of the existing ASP application
• Complex application with nearly 250 ASP pages to be migrated to the ASP .NET platform.

AgreeYa analyzed the system design of the existing web application and proposed a migration strategy based on the best practices recommended by Microsoft. This migration strategy was tailored to the specific business needs of the current application.

The next phase of the project consisted of nearly 250 ASP pages being successfully migrated to ASP .NET. AgreeYa then carried out thorough user acceptance testing (UAT) of the migrated application.

During the execution of this project, several plans and documents were developed to assist in smooth project management, conversion, and testing processes. The entire project was required to be completed in 14 weeks. AgreeYa’s experience in working on similar engagements and expertise in Microsoft technologies made it possible to quickly understand the Agency’s needs, develop a migration strategy, and deliver the project on time, to achieve expected business benefits.
The key benefits realized by this project included:

• A seamless transition from ASP to ASP .NET platform, transparent to the end users of the system
• A robust and scalable application based on the Microsoft .NET framework
• Use of Microsoft .NET security framework to provide a secure Internet-based system.

The technology used was Microsoft .NET, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, and Microsoft SQL Server 2003 as the database.
